Metro X Voice Command: just say it

Set the tempo, the meter or Concert A, turn the page, start the accompaniment or find a score by saying it, in 15 languages. Say "Hey Metro" to do it without touching the screen.

What you can say

  • Tempo, meter and sound. "Tempo 140", "3/4", "Faster by 10", subdivisions, the accent on beat 1, the click sound, the spoken count, count-in and volume, in one sentence if you like: "Play 140 BPM 3/4".
  • Tuner and drone. "A 442" sets Concert A; choose the instrument or the tuner view, or start a drone on a note (Pro), by name.
  • Find a score. "Find Bach cello suite" opens it from your library by title, composer or nickname; if it is not there, Metro X searches IMSLP for you.
  • Pages and accompaniment. Next, previous or a numbered page in the score reader; play, stop, loop bars and 75, 90, 100 or 110% in Play.
  • Sync rooms. Create a room, look for rooms nearby, join one by its code or leave it.
  • 15 languages, up to 3 at once. Tick up to three voice languages and mix them in one sentence.
  • Hands-free with "Hey Metro". Off unless you turn it on (More › Hands-free mode). It listens only while Metro X is open on screen, never in the background, and a "Hey Metro" sign shows the whole time.
  • Nothing is recorded. "Hey Metro" is recognised on your device. Sound is used in memory for recognition and then dropped.

Frequently asked questions

Can I control a metronome app with my voice?

Yes. In Metro X, tap the X at the top of any tab and say "Tempo 140", "3/4", "Faster by 10" or "Play 140 BPM 3/4". The banner shows what was heard and changed, with Undo if it was not what you meant.

Which languages does Voice Command understand?

15: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese (Taiwan and Hong Kong), Hindi and Arabic. Tick up to three voice languages and you can mix them in one sentence.

Can I find a score by saying its name?

Yes. Say "Find Bach cello suite" and Metro X opens it from your library, matching titles, composers and nicknames. If it is not in your library, it searches IMSLP's public-domain scores for you.

Is there a hands-free mode?

Yes. Turn on Hey Metro in More, then say "Hey Metro" and a command, such as "Hey Metro, pause" or "Hey Metro, next page", while Metro X is open on screen. It is off unless you turn it on.

Does Metro X record what I say?

No. "Hey Metro" is recognised on your device, it listens only while Metro X is open on screen and never in the background, and a "Hey Metro" sign shows the whole time. For languages the device cannot recognise offline, your phone's own speech service (Apple or Google) may process those few seconds. Sound is used in memory for recognition and then dropped; nothing is recorded or stored.
